Martha Ann Sawin Eaton

Mrs. Martha Ann Sawin Eaton was the daughter of Samuel Sawin, a corporal in the Revolutionary War in 1776 under General George Washington.

She was born June 7, 1825, in Livermore, Maine, and died May 28, 1912, at the home of her son in Enid, Oklahoma.

Burial was in the Fairbury Cemetery in the Avery family plot.

She was a charter member of the Quivera Chapter.

Mrs. Eaton moved from Fairbury 11 years earlier to live with her son and his family. Martha Ann Sawin was married to Mr. Silas Avery, and to them one son was born. She was married a second time to Mr. Eaton, and he preceded her in death 22 years earlier.

Her obituary in the May 31, 1912, edition of the Fairbury Journal stated:

"Mrs. Eaton's father died a great many years ago, having been quite an aged man at the time of Mrs. Eaton's birth. She moved with her father when but a small child to Boston, Mass., where she resided for a number of years. She has lived 17 years past the allotted three score and some years, and during her past three years enjoyed the distinction of being one of the last daughters of the Revolution to survive, there being perhaps less than half a dozen remaining."
